These appointments are in accordance with applicable Board Policy A-74, “Citizen Participation in County Boards, Commissions and Committees.”

 

RECOMMENDATION(S)

SUPERVISOR MONICA MONTGOMERY STEPPE

Appoint Burnie Dunlap to the EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE COMMITTEE, Seat No. 27 for a term to expire October 8, 2028.

 

Appoint Yvette Porter Moore to the HISTORIC SITE BOARD, Seat No. 4 for a term to expire January 4, 2027.

 

EQUITY IMPACT STATEMENT

County government includes standing and special citizen boards, commissions, committees, and task forces formed to advise the Board of Supervisors and County staff on issues and policy and to serve as links to the community.  Boards, commissions, and committees provide an inter- relationship between the residents and the government of the County.  The nominations in this Board Letter enable the County of San Diego to provide individual residents the opportunity to impart valuable insight and input into the operation of the government.

SUSTAINABILITY IMPACT STATEMENT

The County of San Diego has over one hundred boards, commissions, committees, and task forces that serve as voice in the County government.  Advisory bodies are an essential role in resident engagement that allow citizens to participate on issues relating to the welfare and quality of life in the County.  They are fundamental to the County of San Diego’s ability to navigate complex and dynamic policy challenges, are a conduit to the County Bureaucracy, and a broker to community voice. This board letter supports the County of San Diego Sustainability Goal No.1 by “encourage[ing] people and diverse stakeholders to partner and participate in decisions that impact their lives and communities.”

BACKGROUND

County government includes those standing and special citizen boards, commissions, committees, and task forces formed to advise the Board of Supervisors and County staff on issues of policy and to serve as links to the community.  County committees are created as a result of State and Federal legislation, agreements with public or private agencies, and local needs.

 

LINKAGE TO THE COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO STRATEGIC PLAN

The proposed appointment enables the standing and special citizen Boards, Commissions, Committees, Groups, and Task Forces to continue to function, as designed, without interruption.  This appointment enables the County of San Diego to provide individual citizens the opportunity to impart valuable insight and input into the operation of the government.  Recommendations made by these Boards, Commissions, Committees, Groups, and Task Forces pertain to the environment and quality of life of the citizens of the County of San Diego.
