OVERVIEW
Sylvia Irigoyen spoke regarding the Community Violence Response Team and grief support services she received following the death of her daughter, requesting continued funding for programs that assist families surviving violent loss.
June Dudas described her family’s 20-year struggle to obtain treatment for a relative with severe mental illness, and advocated for a more humane process to petition for Lanterman Petris Short (LPS) conservatorships.
Allegedly Audra expressed concerns about the child welfare system, foster care, and family court, alleging misconduct and criticizing County child welfare services, social workers, attorneys, and judges.
Purita Javier raised concerns about air quality in her neighborhood and read a letter from a City of San Diego Council office referencing outreach to the County Air Pollution Control District.
Bevelynn Bravo spoke about losing her son to violence and shared how the Community Violence Response Team supported her through grief and helped her become a staff member, urging continued funding for the program.
Consuelo expressed opposition to County leadership and ceremonial practices, as well as state and County initiatives and distrust of government.
Paul the Bold raised concerns about alleged abuse at the Polinsky Children’s Center, child welfare and animal welfare enforcement, and requested a personnel audit of multiple County departments.
Peggy Walker, a public health educator and youth mentor, spoke about youth marijuana use, citing a UC study linking increased access to marijuana with higher rates of youth use and psychosis, and urged the Board not to expand marijuana businesses in unincorporated areas.
Juan R. Vargas Jr. spoke about the support his family received from the Community Violence Response Team after his son was killed, and requested continued funding for violence response and support services.
Michael Bagnas spoke regarding the Community Violence Response Team and the need for continued funding for services to families affected by violent crime.
Celeste Hunter described the importance of grief support for families and children affected by violence.
Kenneth White shared his personal experience with loss and the support provided by Community Violence Response Team, urging continued support for the program.
Angela Dumas spoke about the impact of Community Violence Response Team on her family after the loss of her stepson and the ongoing support provided.
Freida Casas emphasized the essential nature of Community Violence Response Team’s work in supporting families at their most difficult moments.
Malika Hollins described her work with the Community Violence Response Team and the critical role the team plays in community healing and violence prevention.
Ruby Jauregui shared her family’s experience with the Community Violence Response Team after the loss of her brother and the importance of the group’s support.
Truth commented on Spring Valley development and representation issues, and criticized the Board’s engagement with the community.
